HAIR UPDATE!

Hey everyone!!! 

Once again.... I'm sorry for being so MIA :( we still don't have internet :( So i only have a few hours at my parents hehe. 

But I wanted to update you guy on my hair :) 

The begging of December I decided to try out the ombre hair style which I have been thinking about for a VERY long time which you guys might have known about.

Here are a few pics :)

I loved it!! I felt like it complemented my skin tone and it looked really good with a lot of outfits.

But... 

I only had it for like 2 weeks lol.

For some reason I wasn't fully satisfied like how you usually are after you get your hair done.

So I dyed my hair black :)

I'm not exactly in love with it but I do like it enough to keep it lol. 

And it is sooo easy to keep up with!

I did both by my self :) and under 20 each so super cheap and pretty good results I think.

My Experience with Hair Extensions...

SO! Some of you may know that I throw some extensions in from time to time. But most of you may not know that I have had hair extensions in-n-out for almost 6 years!!! I would go into detail about my whole "HAIR JOURNEY" but I already have in this post right... HERE :D

I wanted to go more into detail about my experience with hair extensions. I'm almost positive that I have tried about every way you can have hair extensions in you head lol. 

So the first technique of extension application I used was the

'sew-in'

 This is pretty much when they do a corn row braid horizontally to your head to sew on a weft to the braid. They also use this technique to sew in a weave but instead of braiding random areas of you head, they braid your whole head!... just for those who don't know lol.  But this was my first and took about 5 hours for it to be complete. If you have a sensitive head I would not recommend this because they are constantly tugging at your head for the braids to be tight enough. I was fine with it because my mom and aunt were always tuggin' at my hair when I was little lol. I believe it was around $400 dollars at a hair school (that's where I went) and i'm pretty sure they charge by hour. It always depends on where you go as well! Over all this is probably one of my favorite ways to have extensions in just because they are so much more secure to your head. The main problem I have with them is you have to get them tightened which is a long process of cutting out your extensions and re-braiding the braids. They also did the 'bead-in' or 'Fusion' technique around the front of my head just because it was so short (chin length") and it made the extensions look a more natural. They are a little bit different but serve the same purpose.

 Bead-in:

 is where they pull your natural hair through a bead, and place the hair extension strand into the bead and clamp down on the bead to make the extension secure to you head. Here's a pic of a feather extension bead-in.

Fusion:

This is when they take a strand of your natural hair, a strand of extension with fusion tips, and a hot tool to warm the glue at the tips of the hair extension, and clamp it together to form a bond. The pic above is an example of how it turns out to look like.  

Both seem quite simple but are extremely time consuming so there for cost a lot :/ They are also really high maintenance. For example, you need to use your conditioner sparingly with bead-ins because it can clog the beads which can cause your extension to fall out. And I think too much of the conditioner can loosen up the glue with fusion extensions. 

Glue-in's

This is when you apply bonding glue to the hair extension track and apply it to your scalp as close as you can. All though this looks very natural, no bumps or bulges, it can come with a very big mess. TAKE MY ADVISE with this one!! I started doing my own extensions with bonding glue after my sew-ins. I thought it would save money, which did but I had a big price to pay later :( I literally had huge globs of glue in my hair left over after putting them in and taking them out a few times. I eventually had to go to my friend that was a hair dresser, and she had to cut them out about 3... [put your thumb and index finger together], AROUND that size chunks out!!! It was horrifying! She forbid me to ever use the method again and was 150% for that idea after seeing chunks of my hair on the ground :( If you really want to go this route, I would def. recommend going to a professional, and get them removed from a professional so you don't have any mishaps like me...

My recent technique of hair extensions is very affordable and can DIY. 

Clip-in's

I have been using clips-ins on and off for about 2 years. They are really simple, all you need to do is tease your hair a little bit at the roots, where you are going to apply your clip-in, clip-in, then your done. Some pros are that they are easy to apply, easy to take out, and affordable. Some cons are that they are harder to wash because you can not leave them on your head when you wash, and they are not as secure as most extension methods to your head. At first I would buy packs of 'clip-in extensions' (clips already sewn on and cut) but later on found out you can sew the clips on your self for a cheaper price. So there on out I have just been sewing clips onto the wefts. If you know how to hand sew, it's really simple. Yeah it can be time consuming but I think it's a great way to save some $$$$$!!!

Where do I buy my hair extensions???

Now as far of brand of extensions I use, I have used only brands from Sally's. It's one of the only beauty stores around my area that have good extensions. I just don't like order extensions online because there's always that risk of not getting the right hair color to match your own hair. Yes you can always die them, but I prefer not to damage my brand new extensions. At Sally's they have color rings of most of the brands so you can see what hair color matches yours best. I usually buy the 'Satin Strands Premium 18 inch Human Hair Extensions'  They have been good to me. I feel like it comes with the right amount of hair to make your hair look full and real. When my hair was about chin length, I would use the full pack of this brand and people would hardly notice I had extensions. Now that my hair is longer, I only need half of the pack. 


How do I care for my extensions?
If you get your extensions done by a professional they usually give you a care guide to your hair extensions depending on what method you have. But no matter what kind of extensions I have had, I picked up some tips along the way.


1. Do not over wash you hair extensions. If you wash you extensions too much, they can become very dry and brittle. (I know, this is hard when you don't have clip-ins)


2. Don't under wash your hair! If you don't wash your extensions at all they build up with sweat and product and will look... nasty :S


3. Make sure you have the right brush to brush your extensions. To small of bristles (like a comb) can cause your to pull out too many strands of hairs off your extensions. A big brush with  bristles far apart from each other are great.


4. Brush your hair from the tips, up. 


5. If you have clip-ins, make sure to take them out every night and store then into a safe area like into a hair extension storage case or into a box. 


6. If your have any other method of hair extensions, then you need to make sure you tie your hair into a pony tail or braid at night to keep your hair into place. Also another tip I learned is to use a silk pillow case :)


How long to hair extensions last?
It always depends on how well you take care of them, and of course what brand of extensions you get. On average, mine usually last around 3-4 months. That is with washing, curling, and straitening.

Hippie Hair & Big Eyelashes

Hey girlies!!! The other day I thought it would be fun to throw in my extensions, twist back my hair and add huge eyelashes! Here's the out come...

I know I need new extensions but I don't want to get addicted to them again...

My Week: French Braid Head Band & Elmo Cupcakes!

Hey everyone!! Sorry I have been so MIA :( I have been super busy rasin' babies and being a wife, cousin, auntie, sister etc. lol. 

It was also my nieces 2nd Birthday this past Sunday! ahhh I can't believe how fast she has grown up!!! Next is my little man! But I made these Elmo cupcakes for her Birthday party (it was Elmo themed because she is obsessed with him lol)

 Anyways! I did my hair in a 'French Braid Head Band' the other day when I had some time before my kids woke up and decided to record it. It's pretty simple if you know how to french braid. This has always been something I've known how to do because my aunt ALWAYS loved to play with my hair when I was little and I picked it up while watching her! 

I also have quite a few post coming up! Including a GIVEAWAY!!(finally)!!!!! So keep yo eyyyess peeled!!

Review: Garnier Nutrisse Multi-Lights Highlighting Kit

 Hey lovely's! So in one of my recent post, I was debating whether or not to do the whole 'ombre' hair or just go lighter. After thinking HARD, I came to conclusion that I want to go all over lighter. I decided not to go light all at once. I'm in the process of growing my hair out, and I want to make it as healthy as possible. So I am going to go gradually lighter. Currently my hair is dark brown. I had black over it but after 4 months I finally washed almost all of it out, enough to start bleaching. I bought a Garnier Nutrisse Multi-Light Highlighting Kit in Warm Broze. 

 It came with a direction guide, creme developer, highlighting power/ bleach, highlighting comb and conditioner. It also came with a plastic bowl and gloves.

 Here's my hair before. 

 The directions say to use the comb but I found that to not work as well as dipping your finger in the bleach, then going over where you combed. I waited about 20 min. rinsed, then used the conditioner it came with.

 Here is the outcome, I did bigger chunks because I want most of my hair blonde eventually. I really liked it and I thought it was a great step into getting my hair blonde especially it for it being so dark.

And here is how it looks when I wear my hair naturally curly. I'm planning on wearing my hair like this more often so I don't have to straighten and damage my hair more than I am when i'm bleaching it.

Ombre/ Dip Dye Hair. AND Summer Hair Color!

Hey everyone! I hope everyones week is going great and have some fun plans this weekend :D I don't have any :/

BUT anyways, this whole week I have been thinking of changing my hair... again. I have literally been dreaming about changing my hair!!! lol. But lately I have been liking the the whole trend Ombre/ Dip Dye hair.   (if you do not know what ombre hair is, check out the pics :)  When I first saw this trend, I HATED IT! My cousin and I were talking about how it looked like really bad grown out roots lol. BUT as I have been seeing more and more celebs with this hair, I have grown to love it. 

I am more about the subtle, natural kind of ombre hair than the obvious ombre hair (Drew Barrymore).

I have read about how to achieve the ombre look DIY and it seems pretty simple. I would do it myself if I am to! Also If I do this look, I want to use 3 different colors so it's a gradual transition. I think there is a HUGE advantage to ombre hair; the more your hair grows out, the better it looks!  So not roots! 

On the other hand...

Of course I have other ideas for my hair... I have actually have had this idea for sometime now but am so hesitant to actually go through with it! I want to go lighter! I have gone lighter about a year ago, and was going to gradually go blonde but it was just too much to keep up with because my hair is naturally dark brown and I felt like I had to constantly be tan :/

Other than all the negatives about it, It would be nice for a change and nice for summer!

Small Change *New Hair*

Hey everyone! So the other day my cousin came over so I could put some blonde streaks in her hair, once we got done there was still a bit of bleach left so I decided to put a little bit of streaks in my hair.... 

I put a little bit in the front on my bangs (I cut some bangs into my hair) and a little bit on my left side. I didn't want to go all out, just a little bit to warm up my face. (wow I think I used "bit" a bit too much lol)

For a date night I threw in my extensions...

It is really easy to dye/ bleach your own hair! I went from spending hundreds on getting my hair done at a salon to spending somewhere around $15 or less by just running to my nearest Sally's to buy supplies to do so. You can also ask the sales associates at Sally's for help and advice on hair dyeing/ bleaching.

Review: Nexxus Heat Protexx

I have been looking for a heat protection spray for a while to use and I came across Nexxus Heat Protexx. It's their heat protection spray "a alcohol-free styling spray that acts as a barrier to absorb heat and prevent breakage for a smooth, frizz-free style." This sold me right off because I have naturally curly hair that gets SO frizzy, and on top of that I want my hair straight most of the time so I definitely need some kind of protection!

Directions: Spray on towel dried hair, brush through with comb. Do not rinse out. For maximum heat protection, spray lightly onto sections of dry hair before using a thermal styling iron.

This is my hair with only the heat protection spray, blow dried, and some what straightened. I have been using this for about 5 months now and I am very pleased with the results it has given me. My hair is less frizzy, soft and shiny. I also really like this because it has a good scent to it, leaving my hair smelling good all day :)

I definitely recommend buying this. I bought this at Wal-Mart for around $11. It comes in a 8.5 Fl Oz. Bottle and so far has lasted me about 4 months! 

My hair evolution ♥

The other day I was looking at old pics of myself and I couldn't believe how different my hair is compared to then! Then come to think of it, just the overall journey of my hair in the past 5 years! Here are some pics.

Starting in Jr. High, I chopped my hair from mid-back to chin length. (I'm wearing it in a pony tail)

Then about the middle of Jr. High, I decided I wanted to go lighter with my hair...

Then a year later I decided I wanted long luscious hair! So I gave hair extensions a try.

After a while of my hair fading, I then decided to put multiple caramel colors in my hair

Then I decided to dye it all one color, a brown, red-ish color (you can't tell as much in the pic)

When I found out I was pregnant with my son, I wanted to dye my hair back to my natural hair color so I wouldn't have to worry about my roots. After the 1st trimester I did so.

After I had my son, I had it with extensions! I took them out and let my hair fade to it's natural color.

A couple of months later, I was getting bored with my hair (of course) so I decided to put some blonde in it.

I would wear it curly or straight lol. (Not both at the same time, promise!)

When my son turned a year old, I then decided to dye my hair black! Something I have never done.

Then of course I wanted long hair AGAIN, so I threw some extensions in...

Rocked it for a while...

Then I took them back out before my daughter came :D

Now i'm just enjoying my natural hair length with no extensions! I also dyed it black with half red. I wonder what i'm going to want next... D:
